Quest Admissions Test for the Slough Consortium 11+

The Slough Consortium of Grammar Schools has confirmed that it will change its 11+ examination provider from GL Assessment to Quest Assessments.

This change will apply to children sitting the test from September 2027, for entry into Year 7 in September 2028.

What Parents Need to Know

Is the Quest Admissions Test similar to the GL Assessment test?

Yes — based on all available information, the Quest Admissions Test is expected to be very similar to the current GL Assessment exam in both content and structure.

The test will continue to assess the same four core areas:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Non-Verbal and Spatial Reasoning

What do we expect from the new test?

While final details have not yet been fully confirmed, our current expectations — based on research and experience — are as follows:

  • Weighting is likely to remain broadly the same:
    • 50% English and Verbal Reasoning
    • 25% Mathematics
    • 25% Non-Verbal and Spatial Reasoning
  • Format is expected to remain familiar:
    • Two papers with a short break in between
    • Paper-based test
    • Answers recorded on separate multiple-choice answer sheets
  • Question styles will largely mirror GL Assessment:
    • English, Verbal Reasoning and Maths sections will include many familiar question types. Wording and framing of questions will change slightly.
    • Non-Verbal and Spatial Reasoning will be broadly similar, with some additional or slightly different question types

The Bradley Tuition Approach

We have been anticipating this change and have already begun adapting our:

  • Teaching materials
  • Homework programmes
  • Mock examinations
  • Lesson content

While the differences between GL Assessment and Quest are relatively small, we believe that small differences matter when preparing for competitive grammar school entrance examinations.

We are actively analysing all available Quest materials and incorporating:

  • New question types
  • Updated wording and layouts
  • Any changes in assessment style

Our aim is simple:
To stay ahead of the changes, so our students are too.

Our Commitment

We have successfully adapted to exam board changes in the past and will continue to do so.

Whatever form the 11+ takes across Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, we will ensure our pupils are fully prepared, confident and ready.

Important Information for Current Year 5 Pupils

Children sitting the Slough Consortium 11+ in September 2026 (for entry in September 2027) will still take the GL Assessment exam.

The move to Quest does not affect this cohort.

The first cohort expected to sit the Quest Admissions Test will take the exam in September 2027, for entry in September 2028.
