About - Bradley Tuition

An Introduction to Bradley Tuition

Origin Story

Bradley Tuition was founded by Niall, Hywel, and Lyndon Bradley in 2012 at their family home. All three brothers had provided private tuition individually for many years, and demand had begun to snowball. After devising a comprehensive course of exclusively designed 11+ tuition material, the brothers decided to join forces and launch an elite 11+ tuition course.

Family Ethos

Since then, the family ethos at the heart of the original business model has continued throughout the growth of Bradley Tuition. We are a Limited Liability Partnership, and all teachers who lead our 11+ classes are not just employees but are members of the business partnership. This means that every teacher is involved in the operational side of the company, and a proportion of each teacher’s financial package is dependent on the overall success of the company. All teachers who work with us are UK-qualified, have extensive 11+ experience, have trained with the Bradley Tuition founders, and have a personal interest in the success of each student they teach.

What it Takes to Pass the 11+

1

Expert Guidance

Understanding the exam techniques and how to approach the exam is crucial. Detailed methods need to be understood, and the correct materials must be sourced and completed under the guidance of someone who fully understands the content of the 11+ exams.

2

Aptitude

Your child must have the natural aptitude to perform at a high level. The 11+ tests are designed with problem-solving and speed in mind, and understanding the content of the syllabus is not enough on its own. We provide a free, no-obligation assessment to evaluate your child’s suitability for our courses and the 11+ tests.

3

Dedication

Each child needs to be prepared to work very hard and complete the challenging homework schedule carefully each week.

4

Parental Support

Parents need to be prepared to support their child academically throughout the year. Parents will need to mark the homework each week, spend at least 90 minutes listening to the child read aloud, and assist with correcting a certain number of homework mistakes each week. These courses require significant time and dedication from parents, so please ensure you factor this into your decision-making process.

Initial Assessment and Course Suitability

We provide a free, no-obligation assessment for students interested in 11+ tuition. After the assessment, we will contact you to discuss the results. We will offer an honest opinion on your child’s chances of success in the 11+ and their suitability for the relevant course. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the courses, grammar schools, or the 11+ tests. After the call, you will receive an email with a full breakdown of the assessment results and information on the next steps.

Example Weekly Booklet and Answer Sheet

We have included an example of a Year 5 weekly homework booklet and answer sheet with this pack. Each week, the children receive a new booklet that contains all of the work they need to complete in class, as well as the majority of the homework they will need to do at home. On the back page of the booklet, we include a ‘homework sheet’. This outlines what must be completed for homework that week and provides a suggested daily breakdown. The weekly booklet is mark the homework with ticks and crosses.

We strongly advise against completing the example booklet at home now. It is intended to provide an example of the quality of the material and the quantity of homework expected each week. This is the exact booklet we use for Week 10 of the Year 5 11+ course.

You will also notice on the homework sheet (on the back page) that there is additional homework to complete from three other books, as well as the work in the Week 10 Booklet (VR Book 1, NVR Book 1, and Mental Maths Book 1). The children are given these books when they join the course, but you will not have them at home now. The children are also expected to read aloud to an adult for 90 minutes every week, so please bear this in mind.

11+ Exam Content and Providers

We offer 11+ classes at a range of venues across Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. Both counties set their own unique 11+ exam papers. However, both exams are currently set by the same exam provider, GL Assessment. This means that although the children will sit two 11+ tests, one for each county, the syllabus and content for both exams are the same. As a child prepares for the Berkshire test, they are also preparing for the Buckinghamshire test, and vice versa. Most children who attend Bradley Tuition are advised to register for and sit both local 11+ tests. You will receive the results of the 11+ tests before you need to decide which school you would like your child to attend. This means it’s best to sit the tests and make your decision afterwards, based on the results.

The majority of 11+ tests in other regions across the UK are set by GL Assessment, meaning that our courses are suitable preparation for most 11+ tests in the UK. However, there are a few exceptions, as certain areas use different test providers or set their own exams. If you are considering sending your child to a grammar school outside of Berkshire or Buckinghamshire, please discuss this with our team when they contact you to discuss the results of the initial assessment.
